New Graduate Student Orientation

The School of Engineering hosts an orientation for new graduate students during the fall and spring semesters. Orientation offers students an opportunity to meet graduate students and faculty, receive enrollment assistance, and obtain information about KU graduate programs, the city of Lawrence, and the community. Graduates who received their bachelor's degree from KU are encouraged to attend.

All incoming graduate students are welcome to attend orientation. The Engineering & Project Management programs, housed on the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS host a separate orientation, and these students are not expected to attend the Lawrence campus session. Part-time students who are working professionals enrolling in the civil, environmental, and architectural engineering department are also excused from attending orientation.

  • The online orientation session will open in the beginning of July. Completion of the online orientation is mandatory for all students. You can now find online orientation session through Blackboard, under "My Courses."
  • The in-person orientation has two locations for Lawrence & Edwards Campus students.
    • The Edwards Campus session will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 5-8 PM in the BEST Conference Center. Click here for the full agenda. All Edwards Campus students are automatically registered for this event.
    • The Lawrence Campus session will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017. Click here for the full agenda. Check-in will begin at 8:30 AM in the McClendon Atrium in LEEP2 (second level of LEEP2). The official programming will begin at 9:00 AM. Lunch will be provided for all who attend! Please register for this event by Thursday, August 10, so we can have enough food for everyone.

All admitted students will receive more information regarding both orientation sessions as the Fall 2017 semester approaches. General questions about orientation should be directed to the Coordinator of Graduate Recruitment and Outreach.

Spring 2018 Orientation

The online orientation for the Spring 2018 semester is open. Students should plan on completing it before classes start. Completion of the online orientation is mandatory for all students. The online orientation session can be found through Blackboard, under "My Courses." If you do not have an "Engineering Graduate Orientation" course listed on your Blackboard page, please contact the Coordinator of Graduate Recruitment and Outreach ASAP. In-Person Orientation will take place the week prior to classes starting (tentative date is January 11th). More information will be made available in November.

Please contact the Coordinator of Graduate Recruitment and Outreach if you have any questions regarding the online orientation or materials covered in the in-person orientation.
